1/2 Cup Butter 1/2 Cup Butter or margarine
3 Ounces Cream Cheese 3 Ounces Cream cheese at room temper
1 1/2 Cups Sugar 1 1/2 Cups C and H Powdered Sugar
4 Unit Eggs 4 Unit Eggs separated, plus 2 egg yolks
3 1/4 Cups All-Purpose Flour 3 1/4 Cups All-purpose flour
3 Teaspoons Baking Powder 3 Teaspoons Baking powder plus
1/2 Teaspoon Salt 1/2 Teaspoon Salt to 1 ts
2 Teaspoons Anise Seeds 2 Teaspoons Anise seeds ; crushed

1. Cream together butter and cream cheese.

2. Add sugar and beat until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

3. (Mixture might look curdled). Add remaining ingredients; mix well.

4. Chill dough 3 hours. Divide soft dough in half.

5. On a 17 by 14 inch cookie sheet, form each half of dough into a roll 1-1/2 inches wide and the length of the cookie sheet.

6. Bake in 350 degree oven 30 to 35 minutes. Remove from oven and cut rolls into 3/4 inch slices.

7. Place on cookie sheets, cut side down, return to oven and bake 10 minutes or until toasted and crisp.
