Ingredients:

1 Cup Shortening 1 Cup Shortening (Crisco)
2 Cups Sugar 2 Cups Sugar brown
3 Unit Eggs 3 Unit Eggs beaten
1 Tablespoon Vanilla 1 Tablespoon Vanilla grated lemon zest or orange zest
1 Cup Sour Cream 1 Cup Sour cream
5 Cups Flour 5 Cups Flour whole wheat
1 Tablespoon Salt 1 Tablespoon Salt (to taste)
3 Teaspoons Baking Powder 3 Teaspoons Baking powder plus
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda 1/2 Teaspoon Baking soda level - dissol ved in milk
1 1/2 Cups Black Walnuts 1 1/2 Cups Black walnuts chopped
3 Tablespoons Sugar 3 Tablespoons Sugar brown
1 Tablespoon Cinnamon 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon ground

Directions:

1. Cream together the shortening and sugar.

2. Add the eggs, vanilla and sour cream; mix well.

3. Stir in the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda to make a stiff dough.

4. Add chopped nuts. Drop by teaspoonsful onto greased cookie sheet.

5. Mix 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a saucer.

6. Grease the bottom of a jelly glass. Dip into the cinnamon/sugar and gently press the cookies to flatten the balls of dough.

7. Bake at 350F for 10 to 15 minutes or until centers are done.
