Ingredients:

1 Cup Navy Bean 1 Cup Navy beans
1 Unit Water 1 Unit Water hot
1 1/4 Pounds Beef Brisket 1 1/4 Pounds Beef brisket or pot roast
1 Unit Onion 1 Unit Large onion finely chopped
4 Unit Potatoes 4 Unit Medium potatoes peeled
1 Unit Ice 1 Unit Sliced
2 Unit Beef 2 Unit Beef shanks
1 Teaspoon Salt 1 Teaspoon Salt to 1 ts
1 Teaspoon Sweet Paprika 1 Teaspoon Sweet paprika
1 Teaspoon Sugar 1 Teaspoon Sugar confectioner'
1/4 Teaspoon Pepper 1/4 Teaspoon Pepper hot red

Directions:

1. Soak beans in cold water to cover 12 hours.

2. Cut brisket in 3/4-inch-thick slices. Drain beans; discard soaking water.

3. Preheat oven to 350-degrees. In a large casserole with a tight-fitting lid, layer soaked beans, onion and 1/2 of the potatoes.

4. Add sliced beef and shanks; top with remaining potatoes.

5. Sprinkle with salt, paprika, sugar and pepper.

6. Add enough boiling water to cover. Cover dish with foil, sealing well over edge; top with casserole lid.

7. Bake 1 1/2 hours. Real name of this is Cholent it is traditionally served on th Sabbath.

8. It is prepared the day before because no cooking is done on the Sabbath in Orthadox homes.
