This recipe can be prepared ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in your freezer. It makes a great base for stews, soups, and casseroles, and can save you future preparation time.
2. Drain off fat. Stir in remaining ingredients; heat to boiling.
3. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Divide mixture among four 1-quart freezer containers (about 3 cups in each).
5. Cool quickly. Cover and label; freeze no more than 3 months (see note).
6. Use freezer mix in the recipes that call for it.
7. NOTE: Mixture can be stored in refrigerator up to 3 days.
8. When using in rounds are brown, about 10 minutes longer.
