3/4 Cup Butter small lump
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar firmly packed
1 Tablespoon Sugar
1 Unit Egg yolk (optional)
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
2 Cups Flour more as needed to 7 c
1 Unit Walnut Halves (optional)
1/4 Cup Butter small lump
2 1/2 Cups Sugar (optional)
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
3 Tablespoons Milk (up to 4)

1. COOKIES: Cream butter, brown sugar, and sugar well.

2. Add unbeaten egg yolk and vanilla. Blend in 2 cups flour.

3. Chill dough for 3 hours. Shape dough into balls and place on greased baking sheets.

4. Flatten with sugar dipped glass. Bake at 350 degrees 7 to 9 minutes.

5. Makes 5 to 6 dozen. Frost. Place half a walnut on each cookie, if desired.

6. FROSTING: Brown butter in saucepan and remove from heat.

7. Add 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

8. Gradually add 3 or 4 tablespoons of milk for spreading consistency.
