Buttermilk Rolls

Ingredients:

2 Unit Yeast Cakes
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 1/2 Cups Buttermilk lukewarm
1/2 Cup Shortening melted
5 Cups Flour sifted
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda level - dissol ved in milk
1/4 Cup Poppy Seeds (I used just under one Tbsp)

Directions:

1. Crumble yeast cakes into bowl.

2. Add sugar, buttermilk, stirring until dissolved.

3. Stir in butter. Mix and sift flour, salt and baking soda.

4. Stir into first mixture. Allow to rise in a warm place about 1/2 hour.

5. Shape as desired, brush with additional melted butter, sprinkle with poppy seeds and allow to rise again on greased pans until about double in bulk.

6. Bake about 20 minutes in hot oven 400 F Makes about 2 doz.
