1. Preheat oven to 350 F Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
2. Add the vegetable shortening, cherry juice, cherries and the milk and beat for 2 minutes.
3. Add 1/2-2/3 cups(4 large) unbeaten egg whites and beat 2 minutes more.
4. Then fold in1/2 c. of chopped nuts. Pour into two greased and floured round cake layer pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
5. Frost with pink Seven Minute Frosting (it's recipe is in this file).
6. NOTES : MUST use 7-Minute Frosting on this cake and color it pink.
