Chocolate Nut-Filled Cookies

1 1/2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Salt 1 t.
1/2 Cup Chocolate Syrup
Cup Sugar (for decoration)
1 Tablespoon Cornstarch dissolved in, 1/4 c. orange juice
2 Eggs Hard Cooked
Cup Shortening (solid)
1/4 Cup Pecan chopped
2 Cups Flour all-purpose

1. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy; add egg, and beat well.

2. Add flour, baking powder, and salt; mix well.

3. Chill dough 2 to 4 hours. Roll out dough to 1/8" thickness on a lightly floured board.

4. Cut half of dough into 36 circles with a 2" cookie cutter.

5. Using a 2" doughnut cutter, cut remaining dough into 36 circles.

6. Place solid circles on lightly greased cookie sheets.

7. In center of each circle, place a teaspoon of Chocolate-Nut Filling; spread almost to the edges.

8. Top with a circle cut with doughnut cutter; seal edges with fork tines.

9. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. (Cookies may be filled with jam).

10. Chocolate-Nut Filling: Combine all ingredients; cook over low heat until thick and smooth.
