Christmas Cardamom Bread

Ingredients:

1 Teaspoon Salt 1 t.
Cup Sugar (for decoration)
2 Eggs whites room temperature
1/2 Cup Butter or margarine Softened
1 1/2 Cups Milk (up to 2)
2 Ounces Yeast (the recipe calls for 1 1/2 teaspoons but nothing rises in my machine with less than 2)
1 1/2 Cups Bread Flour (or more)
1 1/2 Teaspoons Cardamom ground

Directions:

1. Combine cardamon, yeast and 1 1/2 cups flour in large bowl.

2. Heat milk, butter and sugar until butter is melted.

3. Cool to 115 degrees. Add 2 beaten eggs and salt.

4. Beat into flour mixture, about 2 minutes with mixer.

5. Add more flour to make a malleable dough, about 4-5 cups.

6. Knead for 5-8 minutes. Cover and let rise for 90 minutes.

7. Divide into thirds, then thirds again, forming 9 balls.

8. Let rise 10 minutes. Form into ropes and braid into 3 3-rope loaves.

9. Place side-by-side on a greased cookie sheet.

10. Let rise again 40-50 minutes. Brush tops with milk, and sprinkle with 1 T sugar over each loaf.
