1/2 Cup Brown Sugar 1/2 Cup Brown sugar firmly packed
2 Unit Eggs 2 Unit Eggs separated, plus 2 egg yolks
1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla 1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla almond or lemon flav
1/2 Teaspoon Soda 1/2 Teaspoon Soda (in 1 teaspoon water)
1 1/2 Tablespoons Buttermilk 1 1/2 Tablespoons Buttermilk sour milk
1 Cup Flour 1 Cup Flour whole wheat
1/4 Teaspoon Allspice 1/4 Teaspoon Allspice or nutmeg
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg 1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg ground
1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon 1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon (or more, to taste)
1/4 Cup Bourbon 1/4 Cup Bourbon or whiskey
1/2 Pound Raisin 1/2 Pound White raisins (optional)
1/2 Pound Candied Cherry 1/2 Pound Candied cherries cut-up
1/2 Pound Candied Pineapple 1/2 Pound Candied pineapple
1/2 Cup Flour 1/2 Cup Flour whole wheat
1 1/2 Cups Pecans 1 1/2 Cups Pecans chopped

Directions:

1. Cream shortening and sugar; beat in eggs and add vanilla.

2. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Combine 1 c. flour and spices; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk and bourbon.

3. Beat well after each addition. Coat fruit with 1/2 c.

4. flour; stir fruit and nuts into batter. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets and bake at 350 deg.
