Ingredients:

1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Water Boiling
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 Package Chocolate Chips
1/2 Cup Walnut chopped
1 Cup Shortening
1 Tablespoon Cocoa
1/2 Teaspoon Salt coarse
1 3/4 Cups All-Purpose Flour sifted
2 Eggs well beaten
1 Cup Dates chopped

Directions:

1. Combine dates, boiling water and soda. Cool.

2. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs.

3. Add date mixture.

4. Sift flour, salt, cocoa, mix; add vanilla.

5. Put in 9 x 13 inch cake pan.

6. Top with chocolate chips and nuts.

7. Bake 40 minutes at 325 degrees.

8. Makes its own frosting.

9. Can be topped with ice cream or whipped cream.
