1. The dates give a special flavor to this easy to make dessert.
2. Preheat oven to 325 F. In a bowl, beat eggs until light.
3. Add sugar and shortening; blend well. Sift flour and baking powder together and blend well.
4. Stir in dates, nuts and vanilla. Blend well.
5. Pour into greased 8 x 8-inch pan. Bake for 25 minutes.
6. Cool on wire rack. Cut in small squares or oblongs.
7. Roll in confectioners sugar. Store in covered container.
