Ingredients:

2 Cups Flour 2 Cups Flour (00 type)
3 Teaspoons Baking Powder 3 Teaspoons Baking powder plus 1 teaspoon
1/2 Teaspoon Salt 1/2 Teaspoon Salt approximately
2 Tablespoons Sugar 2 Tablespoons Sugar confectioner'
2 Teaspoons Shortening 2 Teaspoons Shortening (Crisco)
3/4 Cup Milk 3/4 Cup Milk (or use about 1/2 C of powdered milk and about 1 C water)
1 Cup Fig 1 Cup Cooked figs chopped and well drained
1 Unit Egg 1 Unit Egg well beaten

Directions:

1. Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking powder, salt, and sugar.

2. Cut in shortening with 2 spatulas. Slowly add enough milk to form a soft dough.

3. Turn onto lightly floured board. Roll in sheet 1/4 inch thick.

4. Cut in 4-inch squares. Place 2 tablespoons chopped figs on 1/2 of each.

5. Moisten edges with cold milk. Fold. Press edges together.

6. Brush tops with egg mixed with 1 tablespoon milk and 1 teaspoon sugar.

7. Place on slightly oiled baking sheet. Bake in hot oven (450 F) 20 minutes.
