1 Egg
1/2 Cup Sugar
1 1/4 Cups Butter or margarine
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1 Teaspoon Salt to taste
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
3 Cups Oatmeal
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon Ground
1 1/2 Cups Flour unsifted

1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Beat butter and sugars until fluffy.

2. Beat in egg and vanilla.

3. Add combined flour, baking soda, salt and spices; mix well. Stir in oats.

4. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.

5. Bake 8-9 minutes for a chewy cookie, 10-11 minutes for a crisp cookie.

6. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet; remove to wire rack. Store tightly covered. Makes 4 1/2 dozen.
