Ingredients:

1 Egg plus:
1/2 Teaspoon Ginger finely grated
1/4 Cup Molasses (or brown sugar)
2 Cups All-Purpose Flour chilled
1/2 Teaspoon Cloves Ground
2 Teaspoons Baking Soda heaping
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon ground Salt
1 Cup Sugar brown, packed
1/2 Teaspoon Salt optional
3/4 Cup Shortening melted

Directions:

1. Melt shortening; allow to cool.

2. Add sugar, egg and molasses to shortening. Sift flour, soda and spices together.

3. Mix all together and form into 1-inch balls, roll in granulated sugar and place on cookie sheet 2 inches apart.

4. Bake 6 to 8 minutes in 350-degree oven. If taken out of oven when shiny, cookie will be softer.

5. Leave on pan 1 minute before removing after taking out of oven.
